Sodium thioglycolate. This iron-reactive agent breaks down brake dust and embedded metallic particles by chemically dissolving iron deposits from wheels and painted surfaces. It's the compound behind the characteristic purple or red bleeding you see when iron removers go to work, but it has a strong sulfur-like smell and can irritate skin, so gloves and good ventilation are recommended.

Sodium Xylene Sulfonate. A hydrotrope that helps dissolve and stabilize other ingredients in water-based formulas. Prevents separation of oils and surfactants, keeping the product uniform. Essential for maintaining clarity and stability in concentrated cleaners.

2-Butoxyethanol. This powerful solvent cuts through grease, bug splatter, and baked-on brake dust by dissolving both oil-based and water-based grime in a single pass. It works well at low concentrations, but prolonged skin contact or inhaling mist in poorly ventilated areas can cause irritation, so always wear gloves and avoid spraying in enclosed spaces.
